Facilities of the Laboratory Informatics Summer School

IUPUI Campus

The Laboratory Informatics Summer School will be held on the campus of Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), home to 29,000 students. IUPUI is located in downtown Indianapolis, recently selected as one of the twenty best cities to live in the United States.

IU School of Informatics

Classes will be held in the Informatics Complex, a new, state-of-the-art, $43M building devoted exclusively to informatics, information technology, and related programs at Indiana University. The Informatics Complex is the home of the Indiana University School of Informatics.

Laboratory Informatics Graduate Program

Founded in 2000, the School of Informatics is the first of its kind in the country devoted to the emerging field of informatics. In 2003, the school initiated a new Laboratory Informatics Graduate Program. This program is the first of its kind in the world. The curriculum, culminating in an M.S. degree, offers general courses in informatics and specialized courses in laboratory informatics, covering, for example, data acquisition, instrument interfacing, laboratory robotics, chromatography data systems, laboratory information management systems, electronic laboratory notebooks, regulatory compliance, quality control, and scientific data management. Project management and system selection, implementation, and validation are also taught. The program is designed for professional, working students with undergraduate degrees in laboratory-based sciences who seek advanced training in laboratory informatics to pursue careers in the agricultural, biomedical, chemical, food, petroleum, and pharmaceutical industries.
